Colorado EIA update**

As of September 10th, 2018, the Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) Incident in Colorado has resulted in:

• The index premises in Weld County is under a quarantine order; two associated premises are under hold orders

• Twenty-six (26) premises are under hold orders in 13 Colorado counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Crowley, Delta, Douglas, El Paso, Fremont, Gunnison, Larimer, Mesa, Moffat, Montrose, and Weld

• Fifty-seven (57) exposed horses have been located in Colorado

CDA is continuing to work to locate horses in Colorado that were exposed to the EIA-positive horse in addition to testing many of the exposed horses for EIA.

The one quarantined premises in Weld County and the premises directly associated with it have a higher degree of restrictions to control the EIA disease. Some of these are:

• All horses coming into the premises cannot leave until all the re-testing is completed and tests are negative

• All horses coming into the premises must be tested for EIA

• All horses coming into the premises from other states must have a certificate of veterinary inspection

• A complete inventory of horses on the premises is monitored by CDA

Attention Shooters… FYI

If you have travelled to WY or CO for a shoot in the last 30 days.

There is a huge outbreak of EIA and 100’s of quarantined horses. If your horse tested positive with coggins the only solutions are lifetime quarantine or euthanasia!

The Wyoming Livestock Board has quarantined an additional seven premises, totaling nine now, as a result of equine being exposed to a horse originating in Colorado which was found to be positive for Equine Infectious Anemia. Counties include Sweetwater, Lincoln, Teton, Park & Fremont. Forty-one of these equine were exposed at a Sweetwater County premises where the positive horse was sent illegally from Colorado. The remaining horses were exposed to the same horse in Colorado prior to being shipped to Wyoming. All but two of these exposed horses were imported illegally to Wyoming as well. An additional four horses and three premises are still being traced in Natrona and Laramie counties. The Wyoming Livestock Board would like to remind horse and other livestock owners that the consignor, the consignee, and the shipper of livestock are each individually and equally responsible for making sure that the Wyoming Livestock Board’s import requirements have been met. To find out what health requirements must be met when shipping livestock interstate: ALL state requirements are provided at www.interstatelivestock.com. For brand requirements, the state Brand agency should be contacted directly. In Wyoming brand inspections are required at change of ownership and to move all horses, sheep and cattle from county to county and when leaving the state. As of September 7th, 2018, the Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) Incident in Colorado has resulted in:

• The index premises in Weld County is under a quarantine order; two associated premises are under hold orders

• Fifteen (15) premises are under hold orders in nine Colorado counties – they are Adams, Arapahoe, Crowley, Delta, Douglas, El Paso, Mesa, Montrose, and Weld

• Thirty-seven (37) exposed horses have been located in Colorado

CDA is continuing to work to locate approximately 130-150 horses that were exposed to the EIA-positive horse and those horses went to different premises across Colorado. We have limited contact information for many of the people that purchased these horses. If you know anyone who purchased horses from the quarantined facility in Weld County between July 18th and August 20th, please contact the State Veterinarian’s Office at the Colorado Department of Agriculture at 303-869-9130.

Kanab Shoot info

The location to the shoot is First South and main Street in Kanab Shoot starts 10am with a break at noon to ride in the long horn parade. Cold camping on location. If you have portable stalls you can use them. There will be water on the lot for the horses. They want us to keep our guns and outfit on when we go into town and we can ride our horses in town. It’s a clean shooter jackpot.
